So, you’re interested in becoming a steward for your department? That’s great! Stewards are the lifeblood of our union; you’re our groundwork, our vital eyes and ears who flag and develop any contract issues (including grievances), who keep our bargaining unit members and other members of our community up to date about union goings-on, who mobilize these people to take actions with us (talk to their colleagues, sign a petition, fill out a survey, attend an event, rally around a cause, etc.), and who generally serve as a two-way street between people who are really plugged into union work and folks who maybe haven’t had time to engage deeply with us yet (or can’t, for whatever reason).
